A new exhibition The Sea and the Sky: The Art of Ancient Cyprus is opening at the end of the month at the Nicholson Museum, The University of Sydney and is curated by our project's director Dr Craig Barker.

The exhibition examines the artistic traditions of Ancient Cyprus looking at ceramic forms, decorative techniques, depictions of birds, animals and figures. It delves into the many influences of the wider Mediterranean and the natural resources available in Cyprus to determine why ancient Cypriot art is so unique.

The exhibition will open on March 1 with an evening event at the Nicholson including drinks, canapes and a lecture by Craig titled 'Cypriot Art in the Nicholson Museum'. Click here to find out more about the event and to book online.

We are commencing a photograph digitization project for the early years of the dig. We are dusting off our old print albums of field work snaps and scanning them into digital formats to be uploaded on our flikr site.

This week we've added over 150 photographs from the first three seasons of digging, 1995, 4996 and 1997

We will keep posting new photographs as well as higher resolution versions of some of the team photographs throughout the coming months.

If you are a former team member and would like to contribute, please get in touch. Your contributions of team shots, field work, finds and dig shenanigans will help make it a richer archive. All contributions will be credited appropriately.
